I’ll admit it—I wasn’t an early adopter of reels. In fact, when I first heard about them, my reaction was probably the same as yours: Ugh, another thing to add to my already overflowing to-do list. Running a practice was already enough. Social media? Marketing? Putting myself out there for the world to see? It all felt overwhelming and, frankly, terrifying.


But something changed for me, and it started with an “oh my gosh” moment.


Realizing the Power of Your Unique Voice

As a naturopathic doctor, I realized something about our work that probably resonates with you, too: we all give similar advice. Drink more water. Eat whole foods. Prioritize sleep. Manage stress. Get moving. Use herbs and nutrients therapeutically. Sound familiar? It’s the foundation of what we do, but here’s the thing—it’s not what you say that sets you apart. It’s how you say it.

Social media isn’t about reinventing the wheel. And here’s the kicker: video does this faster than anything else.


Why I Fell in Love with Reels (and Why You Will Too)

Before I discovered reels, I was the unofficial family trip videographer. I’d shoot tons of video during vacations, edit them to my favourite song of the moment, and share the final cut with friends and family. Everyone loved those 3-minute travel videos and would ask to see them when we got home. (Spoiler: no one has ever asked to see my photo books.)


Why? Because video hits differently. It’s immersive. It’s emotional. It pulls you in and keeps you watching.


When I realized that creating reels was just a bite-sized version of what I was already doing, I was hooked. Pairing short video clips with trending audio? Yes, please. And the best part? They don’t have to be long—6 seconds is all it takes to make an impact. Short, snappy, and perfect for establishing thought leadership in your niche.

For naturopathic doctors, social media is more than a way to share tips—it’s a tool to shorten the “buyer’s experience.” People need to know, like, and trust you before they’ll book an appointment. Reels, talking head videos, and personal B-roll footage create that trust faster than static posts or text-heavy blogs ever could.

Think about it: reels let people hear your voice, see your personality, and connect with your message—all in a matter of seconds. Whether you’re sharing a quick tip, busting a common health myth, or giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse of your practice, video brings your content to life in a way that feels personal and engaging.

Here’s the thing: marketing is built on storytelling. And the most powerful stories aren’t just told—they’re shown. Reels, B-roll, and talking head videos turn your message into a visual experience that resonates with your audience on a deeper level.


When you use your voice, your perspective, and your unique way of explaining health concepts, you’re not just educating—you’re building a connection. And that’s what sets you apart in a very crowded digital world.

Reels are just one piece of the puzzle, but for me, they’re the most exciting one. They’ve turned what once felt like a burden into a creative outlet, a way to share my story and my expertise with the world. And they can do the same for you.
